DescriptionTamron 50-400mm f/4.5-6.3 Di III VC VXD Nikon Z description

We are introducing the Tamron 50-400mm f/4.5-6.3 Di III VC VXD Nikon Z. Tamron expands the Nikon Z mount system with this new Tamron 50-400mm f/4.5-6.3 Di III VC VXD ultra-telephoto zoom lens. The new lens is perfectly suited for Nikon Z compact mirrorless cameras and covers both the standard 50mm and 400mm ultra-telephoto range, surpassing the flexibility of traditional 100-400mm zoom lenses. The wide zoom range makes the lens equally suitable for shooting or filming everything from street and portraits to sports and wildlife.

ULTRA-COMPACT LENS

Despite its wide zoom range, the lens is remarkably compact, measuring just 185.8 mm in length and weighing 1180 g. It is made of a moisture-resistant construction, making it reliable even in harsh weather conditions. The front element is coated with fluorine, which repels water and oil, making it easier to clean and more resistant to dirt, dust, moisture and fingerprints.

EXCELLENT OPTICAL DESIGN

The new lens has the same excellent optical design as the Sony version, comprising 24 elements in 18 groups with 2 XLD, 3 LD and 2 aspherical lens elements that deliver excellent image quality throughout the zoom range. Users can also enjoy semi-macro photography with a 0.25m MOD and a maximum magnification ratio of 1:2 at a 50mm zoom setting. The firmware can be upgraded via a waterproof connector port and the lens is compatible with Tamron Lens Utility software, allowing users to customise features such as the focus limiter, A-B focus and focus settings.

FAST AND ACCURATE AUTOFOCUS

The lens features Tamron's patented VC (Vibration Compensation) mechanism, which effectively reduces camera shake, especially when shooting at telephoto focal lengths or in low light. In addition, the lens uses artificial intelligence algorithms to automatically select the optimum VC settings for video when shooting at focal lengths of 100 mm or less. The autofocus system is controlled by the VXD linear motor, ensuring fast and accurate focusing across the entire zoom range.

FOR LANDSCAPE, WILDLIFE, SPORT AND EVEN PORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPHY

The Tamron 50-400mm f/4.5-6.3 Di III VC VXD Nikon Z lens is designed with versatility in mind, making it an ideal choice for photographers and videographers who need a single lens capable of handling a wide range of shooting scenarios. From the flexibility of its 8x zoom ratio to its robust build quality, this lens is built to deliver outstanding performance whether you're capturing detailed close-ups or distant subjects. The lens's wide focal range of 50mm to 400mm enables it to excel in various genres, including landscape, wildlife, sports, and even portraits, providing users with a tool that adapts seamlessly to their creative needs.

1. How to choose the right lens for a mirrorless camera?

When choosing the right lens for a mirrorless camera, it is important to consider your photography needs and style. First, decide on the resolution and focusing distance you require. For portraits, lenses with a wide aperture, such as a 50mm f/1.8, are often preferred. If you enjoy landscapes, go for a wide-angle lens (e.g., 24mm). To capture distant objects, telephoto lenses (e.g., 70-200mm) are useful. Another important factor is the lens’s light-gathering ability, which affects performance in low-light conditions. A stabilization system can also be important, especially for longer lenses. It’s important to evaluate the build quality of the lens and the manufacturer's reputation. Try out several lenses and consider your future needs to choose the right and long-lasting investment in your photography.

2. Are all lenses compatible with all mirrorless cameras?

Not all lenses are universal for all mirrorless cameras. Different manufacturers may have different mounts, so it is important to check the lens compatibility with your camera. For example, lenses for Canon, Nikon, Sony, and other manufacturers' mirrorless cameras may not be interchangeable without adapters. It is also important to consider the sensor size. APS-C lenses may be disproportionately large for full-frame cameras. Before purchasing a lens, it is advisable to check the manufacturer's compatibility chart and consider the specific requirements of your camera. Adapters can allow the use of third-party lenses, but there may be some loss in functionality or quality.
