he Konus #5473 Objective Protection Lens is used upon the Crystal microscope. It is affixed atop the normal objective lens for the Crystal, and provides a small layer of protection against impact damage upon the expensive lens. It is just a transparent sacrificial lens.

Novice microscope users will often focus a microscope so close to the specimen that they collide the specimen and objective lens.
